Freebies Of The Month mostly year 2014 the month of Disember [sorry for long title]

When mass printing dominated the mid-twentieth century, the number of colors in an image was reduced by replacing gradients with dots. The technique was seized upon by pop artists, like Lichtenstein and Warhol, to such an extent that it’s entered our visual language.
However, despite it being one of the simplest ways to evoke retro printing, it’s not that easy a technique to produce in Photoshop.
Happily designer Matt Borchert has fixed the problem for us by providing Halftone Automater, a great set of Photoshop actions, free to download for WebdesignerDepot readers.
There are 12 distinct actions: dots, diagonal lines, and horizontal lines; each divided into small, medium, large, huge and gigantic sizes.

Typeface Memory Game

Typeface Memory Game

Brazilian studio PS2 designed a typeface memory game called "The Quick Brown Fox Jumps Over The Lazy Dog," which offers 25 variations of the letter "a." Great practice for children and adults alike, the game is one of those rare products that succeeds in a trifecta of aesthetics, education and entertainment.

After playing the game, which asks players to match corresponding letterforms, players will increasingly recognize the subtle differences between the letters. Some of the letter types included in the game: Akzidenz Grotesk, Baskerville, Centaur, Garamond, Helvetica, Rockwell, Times New Roman, and Univers. A classy bunch, to be sure.

It is currently being printed and distributed by BIS Publishers and can be yours for just € 19,90 ($27.00 US) Buy it now from BIS or Amazon.

Designing book covers ( kopipesediseng )

A quick bit of book cover inspiration.
The advantage of designing covers for a series/collection of books is that you can approach it like so…
Oliver Sacks book cover design
Designed by New-York based Cardon Webb for Oliver Sacks. Via Design Milk.
Like so…
Angus Hyland book cover design
Designed by Angus Hyland of Pentagram for a series of Laurence King books.
So, and like so…
Penguin book cover designs by YES
Designed by London-based YES Studio for Penguin.
In addition, here’s an excellent cover design resource: The Book Cover Archive, “for the appreciation and categorization of excellence in book cover design,” edited and maintained by Ben Pieratt of General Projects and Eric Jacobsen of Whisky Van Gogh Go.
More than 1,300 covers can be searched by designer, title, author, publisher, publication date, art director, photographer, illustrator, typeface, and genre.

What's your designer star sign?

As creatives, we all think we're unique – but in truth there are only 12 types of designer. Creative director Liza Enebeis consults her inner Zodiac to bring you your stars.

Designers born under Aries are fearless. They aren't afraid to tell the client what they really think. Their passion lies inbranding - they want to put their mark on everything. And if the chance arises, they'll make a logo design 10 times bigger just so they can admire it from afar.

Me,ME and ME.....  ---> "Taurus designers are the most reliable; they never leave a client disappointed. They also own the most lucrative design studio in the city. You can feel it from the moment you walk in, from the designer floors, walls and lights, right down to the designer toilet seat."

They're the complete opposite to Cancerian designers, who tend to set up their design studio at home and like to keep client contact to a minimum. Their sensitivity is reflected in their work - they shy away from bold typography and bright colours.
By contrast, Leo designers are brashly confident. They make great keynote speakers because they're guaranteed to give the best show. Their designs reflect their personality - their type is all-caps, preferably centred, as if everything revolves around them.
They work especially well with Gemini designers, who can sweet-talk clients and have them agree to anything. They can sketch almost any scenario, although they can go from loving their own proposal to completely hating it in a matter of minutes.
Virgo designers, on the other hand, are the most precise. While the rest of us are busy looking at the bigger picture, the Virgo designer is busy checking all the kerning for the third or fourth time. They strive for perfection.
They're similar to Libras - when a Libra designer designs, expect them to take a while. All potential outcomes are weighed. Should the logo be left-aligned or right-aligned? Should it be bright red or slightly darker? This can go on for weeks, and no one will see the difference except for the Libra designer.
That's too laborious for the Scorpio designer. They rely on charm and sexiness. The way they build up a presentation, smoothly revealing one concept after another, often turns on even the coldest client.
Sagittarius designers tend to be playful, on the other hand. They're simply willing to try things out. Capricorn designers sympathise with that approach. They just can't stop designing. Every design proposal has to be bigger than the last, with more Pantones, more 3D gradients, more layers, more filters and so on.
Pisces designers would pique at that. They're sensitive types. Does a proposal have the right energy? Does it provoke an emotional reaction? These questions run through the Pisces designer's mind.
Aquarius designers, though, have a different goal: they're idealists at heart. They want to make the world a better place with their design. Apart from their humanitarianism they're also ridiculously sporty. They're the kind of designers who, after a late night in the studio, would rather go for a 10-mile jog than a well-deserved drink. Definitely strange.

Design by Human

Ada satu website khas buat pencinta baju tees/ t-shirt, almaklumlah aku ni mmg suka pakai baju tees so tak jadi masalah aku pencinta tees hahahaha.

Jumpa lagi setelah selesai bercuti-cuti.

What kills your creativity?

Please Click The Image for bigger resolution

"So this is the best situation for designer out there to know at least know their creativity flow and becoming dead. So if you're still a designer and really stuck on ideas; this is why it happens."
_____________________________________________________________________________
When it comes to doing creative work, it’s important to not only look for ways to let our creativity thrive, but to also be mindful of insidious “creativity killers” that can sneak up and strangle our ability to come up with our best ideas. According to research from Harvard University, there are five main culprits that are responsible for killing our creativity.
It’s important to recognize these impediments to the creative thought process because many are insidious, and worse yet, most can be made on the managerial end, meaning we may be stifling our creative workers without even realizing it.
For those of us doing creative work, we must be mindful of these deterrents of the creative process so we can continue to put out our most novel ideas.

1. Role Mismatch

As Einstein said, “Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.”
Placing people in roles that they are not fit for is a surefire way to kill creativity. Although this may seem like a managerial concern, there are personal consequences here as well. Additional research has shown that we are at our best when we are “busy” (and pushed to our limits), but not rushed. In the wrong role, we can struggle to keep up and live in a constant state of creativity-crushing panic.

2. External End-Goal Restriction

Although self-restriction can often boost creativity, the Harvard study shows thatexternal restrictions are almost always a bad thing for creative thinking. This includes subtle language use that deters creativity, such as bosses claiming “We do things by the book around here,” or group members implicitly communicating that new ideas are not welcome.

3. Strict Ration of Resources

While money and physical resources are important to creativity, the Harvard study revealed that mental resources were most important, including having enough time.
Creative people re-conceptualize problems more often than a non-creative. This means they look at a variety of solutions from a number of different angles, and this extensive observation of a project requires time. This is one of the many reasons you should do your best to avoid unnecessary near-deadline work that requires novel thinking. Also, when we are faced with too many external restrictions we spend more time acquiring more resources than actually, you know, creating.

4. Lack of Social Diversity

Homogeneous groups have shown to be better able to get along, but it comes at a cost: they are less creative. This even applies to the social groups you keep, so beware of being surrounded by people who are too similar all the time, you may end up in a creative echo-chamber.

5. Discouragement/No Positive Feedback

It’s tough to continue working on novel ideas when you haven’t received any positive feedback. This feeling is backed by psychological research that shows people who’ve started a new undertaking are most likely to give up the first time things come crashing down, also known at the “what the hell!” effect.
Creative people thrive on having others impacted by their ideas. Without feedback, their motivation begins to wither and die.
How about you?
What kills your creativity?
